Grounding AI Narratives in Practice

We're running a workshop at the Fairness, Accountability and Transparency conference in Montreal, June 25-28. This is in collaboration with the Montreal AI Ethics Institute, We and AI, and the San Diego Supercomputer Centre.

Since February 2026, we have been writing on practical and grounded narratives about AI, challenging the usual hype that surrounds the topic, and bringing our insights to the 20,000+ readers of the AI Ethics Brief by MAIEI.

Responsible AI is an AI lifecycle that is inclusive of diverse stakeholders who strive for social justice and inform better AI narratives and governance practices.
RAIN's Responsible AI Diagram consists of four overlapping rings, with the AI lifecycle at the centre, an incomplete list of AI stakeholders, "AI Narratives" and "AI Governance" sandwiched in between, and the four futures we strive for at RAIN at the outermost layer.
RAIN's founder proposes an AI governance-focused network at the Royal Society for the encouragement of the Arts, Commerce and Manufactures (RSA). A small group of RSA Fellows collaborate on debunking AI hype.
RAIN is formally established within the RSA Fellowship, Two founding events and three more events are hosted throughout the year, platforming expertise among the network's membership. RAIN is the fastest-growing network of the RSA.
Co-leads are appointed by RAIN's founder to draft the first version of our theory of change, and to recruit members of a Steering Committee. Two hybrid events are delivered from London towards the end of the year.
RAIN partners with the Graphic Artists' Guild to run a hybrid event in New York. RAIN produces the responsible AI diagram, which defines responsible AI from a systems thinking perspective. The diagram was featured during an event held in partnership with BRAID UK.
RAIN establishes a partnership with the Montreal AI Ethics Institute (MAIEI). Appealing to the Institute's 20k+ readers, RAIN is producing the Tech Futures series to show why AI narratives and practices need grounding in rigorous science.
